My I've grown

Did a couple of shows last night. Had my first show downtown. It's a show that is put on by two dudes I befriended when I started comedy. I did their first show back in December, and was finally welcomed back this month. Well it was actually last month but I gave up my spot so another comic had a chance to perform before she left the state. I can't honestly say I was surprised it took them so long to put me back on, but I also can't say I don't understand why they didn't. Comedy is a business, and for the most part there's no friendships in business. I can't bring a lot of people, and at the end of the day there's a lot of funny people but few good promoters.

Let me start by saying I got about 4 hours of sleep Saturday night, as I stayed up til 5 am playing poker and had to work at 9. Had one of my best weeks of poker in awhile. Worked all day, went to the gym, and headed to the show. Anyways I notice I'm going up 2nd, basically first as the promoters rotate going first every other month. Can't say I was shocked, as I told someone I figured they'd put me 2nd due to my lack of promoting. At first I took it as a slap, but then I thought who cares where I go up, I'm a nobody drop the ego. I went up there and did some jokes, a lot of newer stuff and did well. Some jokes just popped up while I was on stage. The lights were way too bright for my liking but it was a nice change to do jokes. I was really comfortable and think my timing and flow was good. I'm hoping to get my hands on the tape. A lot of people told me I did well, which is a good thing.

After that I headed over to the Blarney Stone. There was actually a good amount of people there for Blarney anyways. I basically walked in the door and was told I was next. That was a little weird as I'm used to at least sitting down and settling in a bit. I think this made things a little tougher. I didn't even take the mic out of the stand, and just talking to this table to the right of the stage. I was happy with how it went. I had a few lulls, but think overall it flowed well. I have no clue how long I do up there, and should prolly start timing it. I just go until I speak to the people I want, there shuffle off stage. I'd imagine it's around 7 to 9 minutes but really can't be sure. I hung out for awhile after. I usually leave soon after but my friend was on last and figured I'd stick around. I was pretty tired considering the lack of sleep.

Just want to talk about ego's for a moment. The fact I was somewhat angered I was up 2nd was purely ego. There's really no reason for me to have an ego as I have no credits or agents knocking at my door. I may have also been angered as I try to mix friendship and business, and to be honest I have been working on seperating the two. I try to put my friends on winston's every week, but don't give them the best spots. I'm not above going first or second or dead last, who cares it's a spot and it's my job to be funny whenever I go up. I think if I can just carry a more positive attitude good things will follow.

Got an email from a dude I met Friday at Winston's. I'm not sure I remember who he is as I give my email to a lot of folks to try to give them a chance to perform. I check my email today and see a long email from him talking about how he'd like 10 minutes. Saying how at first he wanted 15 but hadn't gone on stage for 12 years so wanted to take it slow. He also talked about how he wanted to be brought on stage, and didn't like how we said everyone was funny last week. It's just insane the false thought of entitlement these lunatic comics have. Here's the email.

Hi, my name is (removed), I talked to you last Friday night about getting in the Line up for next week?
You told me to e-mail you, so I am e-mailing you.

I was originally looking for a 15 minute set, but I will settle for 10 minutes to start.
I have about a half hours worth of material ready to go, but this is my first time on stage in 12 years. 12 years ago I used to improv at Sizzler's in Hawaii for 2 to 3 hours straight. I was the ONLY guy performing, so that's the way it was. But that was 12 years ago.

I am not interested in becoming a regular there at Winston's, my original plan was to just do 2 nights and I am off to other venues. I wanted to do Winston's for my 2nd Debut location because if I mess up no one is really going to notice. :)
I hope to impress you enough in my first 10 minute set that you might let me Headline the following week with a 15 minute to a half hour set. That's my plan, I hope we can work something out.

Unlike other Comedians I don't have a bunch of my material on a Website, maybe later I will do something like that, but right now the only thing I want to do is get back up on Stage and start doing it again, get the feel for it again, then I will worry about Promoting myself later.

If you DO decide to allow me to perform at Winston's I would just like to request that in my introduction if you could please instruct the MC to just introduce me as "Please Welcome Sua" that's it. Not- "one of the Funniest guys in San Diego" (Like he announced half the people there last week including one guy who it was his first night on stage. :)

I am trying to play it very low key because I am a little Nervous getting back on Stage after 12 years. But I feel confident that once I get up there and get back in the groove I feel sure I will impress you. I just need the stage time to do it.

Thanks for Considering me,
Hope to see you next Friday,
