Busy times at the Store
Sunday was pretty slow at the Store, 18 maybe 20 people at the max. They were a good crowd though, until I went up. I'm trying to get a clean tape and my first two jokes tanked pretty hard. I quickly just abandoned the jokes and chatted with the crowd. I went back into jokes and they just didn't work very well. I talked to a girl and her parents for a bit, and got some good laughs from them but the jokes really didn't work with the whole crowd. I actually got some groans, which I guess makes sense.
Monday was the Store open mic. Slow crowd again. I went up and ranted for a minute about my girlfriend. Then tried some older jokes, which got little to no response. Chatted with a lady in the front, but couldn't really make much out of that.
Tuesday was the Store again. 35 or so people. They were small but they were a good crowd. I went up 3rd and did 10 minutes. Had a few people come up to me after and say I did well. The headliner did 40 and it was kinda rough. He has a lot of offensive jokes, and after 20 minutes of that it gets annoying. Some people walked out, and one even said, "Why is he doing the most time, he is the worst." Same guy offered to buy me a drink, but I was working so said no. After the show I did the podcast. I think it went better than I expected, but I think there was a lot more stuff we could have got into, but the hour flew by.
Wednesday was Winston's. They made tickets and had the bartenders pass them around the street fair. There was about 20 or so people there, who were willing to laugh at good jokes. A few of the comics brought a crowd, so that's a plus. One of the comics went up first and got a little drunk and started somewhat heckling the comics. It was annoying but I let it go. I would say the show was a successful, esp. for the 2nd of the first round. I think this contest will be more popular. Let's hope. I walked over to bar eleven after. It was pretty dead. I tried crowd work, but that didn't have much laughter either. Who knows, they may be cancelling that show, so glad I continue with the struggle.
